“The Steps in Between”
On March 3, 2025, Joshua Old was in a serious car accident that left him with multiple injuries. He had to temporarily leave his job in Atlanta, and move home with my husband and I while he recovers. For someone as independent as Josh, the transition hasn’t been easy. He also lives with Von Willebrand Type III, which prevents his blood from clotting, and is only one of 300 people in the United States with this disorder. Last week, he had another surgery, and after nearly two months, is finally weight bearing on one leg. Progress is slow, but it is progress. This photo story follows Josh after getting out of the hospital to learning to walk again with crutches. Along the way, he’s found small ways to be independent again. He’s cooking his own lunches and working out. These may seem like small moments but they are all part of the journey. One step at a time, he’s slowly getting back to himself. Here are the steps in between.
